Saturday Morning Fritz Wise, Lloyd and Kristin Shirley headed for Bayou Anacoca, the take out for the LaborDay Sabine River Float trip. They were motoring up to meet everyone at the first night's camp sandbar. BTV members Lorinda Rountree, Bill Modica and Phil Rogers joined them along with about 20 more canoes from various other clubs. It was a very small group this year possibly due to the fact that there was no Margarita Bar this year. They hoped that it was other reasons that kept the canoeists away. It was a shame as the weather was perfect. Not too hot and cool in the evenings. Kristin prepared a lovely pineapple upside down cake in her new camp oven to share with the group. The Sandbar was filled with conversation and stories.
Sunday morning started with a leisurely breakfast. Then all made their way carefully through the obstacle course now on the river due to lack of water. Once at the second night's camp all were settling in again. Steaks, chicken, sausage and pork loin and grilled veggies filled the BTV's bellies. Lloyd entertained with an Astronomy talk with the help of Phil's high powered binoculars.
Monday morning started the same as Sunday. Fritz's party got off the river at about 12:30 PM. By the time they made it to Hwy 190 the rain started. The timing was perfect. Kristin treated the boys to ice cream. A great ending to a great weekend.
